Claimed as the “Queen of Fruits” in Thailand, mangosteen fruit and its hull (or pericarp) are rich in phytonutrients such as strong antioxidants polyphenolic xanthones. Modern research reveals that mangosteen extracts can suppress allergic reactions by inhibiting IgE-mediated histamine release from mast cells and prostaglandin E2 synthesis.

Traditional Uses of Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana)

The mangosteen fruit, called the “Queen of Fruits,” is grown in Thailand,
Cambodia, Vietnam, India, Brazil, Africa, the Caribbean and the Philippines.
This fruit takes the shape of a tangerine and tastes refreshingly sweet with a bit
sourness.
Also used as a folk medicine in Asia for centuries, knowledge of the healing properties of this plant has
been passed down from generation to generation and also passed on to early European explorers and
settlers.
Mangosteen has been traditionally used as a medicinal treatment for diarrhea, skin infection, urinary
infections and wounds throughout South Asia.
