Why did WinVivo develop Botano Throat?

Because we couldn’t find anything better for ourselves, our friends and family. Here is Dr. Shirley Chen, our CEO’s personal story behind the development of this product:

For years, during the transition of winter to spring, if I caught a cold or flu, I would have lingering coughs even after all other symptoms were gone. Being a “workaholic” (according to my friends and family), I would show up at work and close my office door, working and coughing for hours. At night, the cough got worse and would keep me up most of the time.

Desperate to find a cure for this problem but reluctant to take prescription codeine-type narcotic cough-suppressants, I tried almost every type of OTC drug (Robitussin, Dimetapp, Vicks Nyquil, etc.) and natural/herbal cough drops (Ricola, Halls, etc.). Nothing seemed to help much, and my cough at night got even worse. I coughed as if my lungs were on fire and my ribs were about to break. After several long bouts with chronic cough, I remembered the name of the herbal cough syrup that my mother used to give me during my childhood, and I actually found it in a little Asian herbal store. After taking 6 vials of sweet syrup (10 ml/vial) for 2 days my stubborn coughs were gone for good.

Whenever I found my friends or family suffering from chronic cough, I would recommend this herbal remedy to them. While the results were always positive, many expressed the dislike of the high sugar content in the syrup, and the inconvenience of carrying glass vials to work.

I led the development of WinVivo’s Botano Throat lozenges to improve on my mother’s favorite cough remedy for her 5 kids. We converted the high sugar cough syrup to sugar-free lozenges which are equally effective but with a much lower calorie content. The lozenges are naturally sweetened with low-calorie Buddha fruit (which also nourishes the lungs) and erythritol, which cool the throat and have a refreshing aftertaste, unlike the sticky, sour taste typically associated with sugar or honey-based cough drops. The lozenge form makes it easier to carry to work and for travel.
