Meeting Challenges of the Global Pandemic of Diabetes —
WinVivo Showcases Innovative Botanical Wound Healing Product at Diabetic Foot Global Conference

Silicon Valley, CALIFORNIA – March 22, 2012

In the past 2 decades, there has been an explosive increase in the number of people diagnosed with diabetes worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 180 million people worldwide have diabetes; and the estimates are likely to more than double by 2030. Deaths due to diabetes will increase by more than 50% in the next 10 years without urgent intervention, and in particular by over 80% in upper-middle-income countries. Complications of diabetes include kidney failure, blindness, and hard-to-heal diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) that could lead to amputation of lower limbs. Patients with diabetes have a 15%-25% lifetime risk of developing a DFU, among them 12-24% requiring amputation.

Facing these grim challenges, world leaders in clinical research on podiatric medicine, endocrinology, and vascular diseases gathered at Los Angelos on March 15-17, 2012 to discuss strategies and the latest development in the science and clinical treatment of diabetic foot. The theme of the meeting was to explore multidisciplinary approaches to preventing amputation and to promote quality of life of DFU patients.

At the conference, WinVivo presented its flagship product, the WinVivo Healing Balm, a natural wound care product. Compelling clinical evidence obtained by prominent US clinicians and wound care specialists was presented. Many DFU patients, whose DFUs were previously refractory to the treatment of various advanced wound care modalities, such as negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), biologic dressings, skin grafts and substitutes, responded well to the WinVivo treatment. Leveraging its multifunctional antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, the WinVivo topical ointment has proven clinically to accelerate healing of chronic wounds of various sizes, including large surgical wounds of diabetic patients treated at the UCSF Center for Limb Preservation.

Wound care specialists at the conference were impressed with the clinical results and requested samples of the product to take back to try, especially in those countries/regions of emerging economies with rapidly growing population of diabetics. Many expressed appreciation of WinVivo for blazing the trail of developing high performance yet cost-effective natural products for the large population who not only are suffering from non-healing chronic wounds, but also impose a lifelong heavy burden on the healthcare systems worldwide.
